Course Information
The HeartCert Nurse Assistant Training course in Cedar Rapids IA has several components. Students must pass all portions of the training in order to graduate:
- Blended learning – Students will first complete 43 hours of online training required prior to the listed in-classroom dates. Access to the online material will be granted within one business day after registration. Those who do not complete the online portion will not be allowed into the in-person sessions and must reschedule.
- Classroom learning / lab – after completing the online portion of the class, students will attend 15 hours of lab skills training at our HeartCert classroom.
- After successful completion of steps 1 and 2 students will go to an approved clinical site for 30 hours of required onsite training.
- Upon successful completion students are then able to register for the state exam for state certification. All information for state testing will be provided after your course. Please note that in Iowa CNA’s are not licensed, rather they are certified.
Prerequisites: Students must be 16 years of age to attend training. Applicants must pass a criminal background check and provide a negative TB test result to attend clinical training – additional fees may apply. Additional forms will be provided in your confirmation email to complete. Scrubs are required for in-person sessions. Feel free to contact our office with any questions.

Make a difference! Become a CNA with the HeartCert Nursing Assistant Program! The CNA Nurse Assistant Training Program offers students a chance to learn in a hands-on environment under the eyes of experienced licensed nurses, bolstered by a curriculum that meets or exceeds federal and state standards for certification.
Graduates of the program are eligible to take the Iowa CNA competency examination. After successful completion of the state exam (additional state testing fees may apply) you may become eligible to be a state certified CNA. The state competency exam includes both a written examination and a skills evaluation. The purpose of the state exam is to make sure that the graduate understands and can safely perform in the role of an entry-level nurse assistant.
